Police have charged a Lower Estate man who allegedly wielded a knife on a woman at the Road Town Festival Village on Friday, August 3.

Michael Smith, 52, was charged with being armed with an offensive weapon. He was granted Police bail.

As reported earlier, Police Officers acting on a report made at the Festival Village and responded immediately to the area where they arrested the man, who a woman claimed pulled a knife on her.

Police Officers, who could be seen arresting the man and taking him across to the Police booth, retrieved what appeared to be a knife from him. He was immediately handcuffed and taken to the Road Town Police Station.

It is unclear what fueled the incident, but according to information, the man allegedly told officers that he was joking.

Meanwhile, on the following night, Saturday, August 4 in an unrelated incident, two men were arrested following a fight; however, they have been discharged pending further investigations.

Security concerns were recently raised following the stabbing of a man in the Festival Village on Friday, July 27. Matthew Hart was arrested for that stabbing and is currently on remand at Her Majesty's Prison. Hart allegedly used a knife to stab the man in his back.

In light of the recent incidences, Acting Commissioner of Police, Alwin James is asking the public to refrain from violence and to engage in the fight against violence.

"All must join in this pledge to stop the violence. Let us enjoy our Emancipation with respect for each other. The celebration can only be enjoyed if the unnecessary violence is stopped," James stated.

U need to pull back your last statement I could see them using that to get him off. I say measure the length of the knife and multiply it by the width and that's how many lashes he should get. Whilst he getting the lashes it should be told to him don't do it again.

The woman left her house to enjoy herself and look what she find. I think it would be better to say safer in numbers. Have a buddy system.
